Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the top division and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent saves to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the official decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton stay in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of the field

After a uninspiring weekday performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the face of goal for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his second in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defensive duties, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the pair handled superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have worn off slightly and supporters flocked to the exits after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The end in the team's winning streak at home will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of established strikers - had netted only a single goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, too, was unable to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. Most of Everton's offensive moves came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.

The Toffees: Moyes' men head to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 20:00 GMT.

Tottenham: Spurs travel to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their next round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
